Providing support for young people at risk in Kerry

Young Person at Risk

For the purposes of this working group a ′Young Person at Risk′ will refer to "Any young person aged 12 - 18 years old who

  • poses a risk of harm to self or others by virtue of lifestyle or behaviour;
  • whose behaviour seriously threatens their life chances and places them at a high risk of detention or being taken into care;
  • Whose behaviour will seriously impact on their quality of life and result in poor developmental outcomes."



Who We Are
The Young People at Risk Working Group includes members from the Probation Service, An Garda Síochána, Kerry Diocesan Youth Service, the HSE, Kerry Education Service, National educational Welfare Board, and the Kerry Network of Family Resource Centres.


What We Will Do
By working effectively together the Young People at Risk Working Group hope to:
  • To improve the life chances of young people who engage in crime and other high risk behaviours
  • Reduce young people′s experience of and involvement in crime, anti-social behaviour and other high risk behaviours.
  • Promote young people′s adoption of and engagement in positive lifestyles.
